January Work Party at Noakes Grove

Sunday 15th January - 10.00 am - 3.00 pm - Hot drinks available but bring a snack - Come when you like

noakes scrub

We will be working on a patch of scrub near the NW corner of the reserve , see the aerial photo on left.

The orange line will be a dead hedge location, using the existing trees (on the same side as the scrub block) to make some of the posts.

The main idea is to open out a triangle at the junction, but then extending west and south from there. West as far as a ride that has now been overgrown and blocked, and south as far as we get.It will take more than one day!

We plan to experiment with leaving a few more standing trees than before and create more of a mosaic rather than a cleared block.

The overall aim of choosing this bit is to create another opening with light from the south, and where there is already bramble and Dog Rose on the north, as a clearing that may attract the Silver Washed Fritillaries.

The Wild Child Club is for children age 6 - 10 who enjoy themselves at our reserves while learnng about wildlife and conservation work.

Both groups run from 2 - 4 pm and meet every two weeeks,

The Friday group is for home-educated children and is full at present,

The Saturday group is for at-school youngsters.

Each group is limited to 10 children and there are a few vacancies for the Saturday Group. Parents who are interested will be invited to bring their child to a "taster session" to see if they wish their child to be a full member of Wild Child.

Contact david@walden-countryside.co.uk if you would like to book a taster session.

The Wild Child Club is free, although many parents make donations for which we are very grateful.
